Role Models are indeed YUMMY

The late Honorable Barbara Jordan was my first role model outside of my mom.  She just seemed like the American dream to me.  Black girl in the segregated South grows up to become the 3rd Black Female lawyer in Texas and later onto a history making career in politics.  I was impressed by her.  Something about the way she looked and smiled made me feel like she was different. And she was! She came across as a sincere concerned individual who believed that every and anyone could contribute to a better environment and together we all could make a difference.  I remember being a little girl and the phrase "it only takes one person to make a difference" was  said often, I felt that I could make a difference and decided to be just as smart as Barbara Jordan was.  I am not running for office but I am living up to my potential and I have Mrs. Jordan to thank for helping a little Black girl in Texas believe anything is possible.
