I wrote about Chris and his jazz group a while back after I was smitten with his music and piano player Jon Baptiste. He is performing this Sunday in NYC you don't want to miss him, really!

I wanted to get this post up asap but didn't have time to find proper images of the people I wanted to speak about. So I picked this photo of tulips in my kitchen window in LA. This picture looks like a Chris Turner Band tune. Now on to the business. This week I was in NY and stopped in at the Jazz Gallery. Funny thing about this place is when ever I go to see someone I always discover someone. Once I went to check Gerald Clayton and was introduced to Jaleel Shaw. This time I went to see a cat from my hometown Chris Turner. A young dude from New School who has the most crisp and clean voice I have ever heard live ever. His voice is like nothing you hear today. I mean he is appropriately a jazz artist. And when he sings he's so sincere. His honesty about love and smiles is so refreshing. And more intriguing is that when you look at him you get a sense that he is holding some creative genius back. Like he's not ready to unleash it all just yet. Or maybe he's just so young and hasn't quite realized that he's got "IT" I espically loved reading the tattos on his neck. One side said "love made" the other "trust love" how simple. I love it. But the best thing about going to see Chris Turner and his band play at the jazz gallery was discovering this piano player named Jonathon Batiste, Thelonius' little nephew (not literally.) I mean I have seen a lot of piano players live before, tons and believe me when I tell you this cat is genius. I know great when I see it and Batiste will get there one day. The man is just exceptional. Do y'all selves a favor and get up on these cats. Let the googling begin now.
